At one time, the Asus P5G-MX motherboard was designed for economical buyers. Its main advantages were the support of Intel’s Core 2 Duo and Dual Core processors and the presence of a built-in GMA 950 video card.Unfortunately, the ASUS P5G-MX motherboard only has a 1066 MHz system bus. At the time of release, the ASUS P5G-MX was the cheapest option from ASUS.

Asus P5G-MX + Dual-Core E5800
The official website states that the Asus P5G-MX only supports Conroe and Conroe-L processors. But in practice it is known that the P5G-MX runs on a dual-core Pentium Dual-Core E5800 processor with a Wolfdale-3M core. Only then the BIOS swears at an unknown processor. Its CPUID 1067A is missing in the latest firmware version of the BIOS. You can also install dual-core Intel Xeon processors in this motherboard.
If you want to install 45nm Dual-Core or Xeon – you should upgrade the motherboard BIOS to a BIOS with added CPU microcodes.
The mod contains microcodes only for 45 / 65nm Core / Xeon. You can download the bios on the Asus P5G-MX here.
There are two folders in the archive, ORIG and 771.
- ORIG is the original image from the manufacturer’s website, it is recommended to sew it first and check the stability of the system with it.
- 771 – image with added / replaced microcodes.
As a result, the entire Dual-Core / Core 2 Duo / Xeon line will run on the Asus P5G-MX.
